I also worked with Chad at The Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired back in the mid 1980's. I was there when we made that trek to Airman's Cave. Chad was a big part of our family here at TSBVI. I will never forget when he crossed the stage to get his diploma. I also will remember his big smile and laugh. It was a pleasure working with and knowing Chad. I want to send my condolences to his family and friends.

I am so sad for your loss! I worked with Chad when he was a student at Texas School for the Blind. The amazing thing to me was his desire to stay connected which he has done, all these years. I truly was shocked because when I heard the news, it was through a Facebook page as graduates are planning a reunion and everyone is posting. I saw Chad grow through so many experiences.
One particular experience has remained so very close to my heart. We had the students do team building activities. One of our activities was to hike the Barton Creek Greenbelt to a spot called Airman's Cave. Once we got to the cave, each student and staff crawled to a spot known as "the big room." Chad of course, informed us that he couldn't go. I said we are all a "team" and we need to problem-solve. We came up with the idea to get a carpet carrier for Chad. He was a willing participant so it took about 6 staff/students to carry him across paths, creek beds, up and down hills. When we made it to the cave, I encouraged him to crawl in as far as he could- he did and was gleefully muddy as the rest of the students. The return trip was just the same-in reverse. As the day drew to a close, we reviewed how each student felt about the day's activities. When Chad spoke about the day, he started to cry because he said he felt truly part of the group and expressed his gratitude to his peers for all their support. It was a life-changing moment for me as I hope it was for Chad.
I wish you and your family peace and am truly grateful to have had Chad as part of my life and TSB family.
Much love to you.
