Thomas S. Lamb, Jr.
Thomas S. Lamb, Jr., 94 of Rowlett, formerly of Greenville,
died Saturday at his home. Funeral
services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Highland Terrace
Baptist Church under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Dr. Bob Sexton will officiate. Interment will follow at Memoryland Memorial
Park, with full military honors. Rev. Justin
Wheeler and Dr. Dan Truitt will officiate at the graveside. Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM,
Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Lamb was born in Dallas on January 10, 1923. He was the son of Thomas S. Lamb, Sr. and Hue
Jewel Burns Lamb. He married Frankie L.
Moseley on March 19, 1944 in Miller Grove, Texas. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church
in Wylie and formerly a member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church. He retired from the Greenville Independent
School District after teaching 35 years.
Mr. Lamb enlisted into the U. S. army in 1943 and served his
country until 1946. He was a combat
veteran having served in New Guinea where he qualified to jump as an airborne
paratrooper. He also served in the
Philippines specifically in Leyte and Luzon.
He was a member of the 11th Airborne Division. He served in Service Company 187th
Glider Infantry. His Division and
Company took Manila, the capital of the Philippines. He was also among the first to arrive in
Japan after its surrender to take part in the occupation.
Survivors include his son, Nick Lamb and wife, Sandi of
Rowlett; daughter, Anette Lewinn and husband, Russell of North Richland Hills;
grandsons, Jonathan Lamb and wife, Anna, David Lamb and Joshua Lamb all of Rowlett; great-grandchildren,
Luke, Emma and Ava Lamb; brother-in-law, Doyce Gilmer; nieces, Jan Offutt and
husband, Glenn and Kathy Zimmerman and husband, Mike; nephew, Doyce Gilmer and
wife, Jill; and life-long friends, Jimmie Brice and husband, Thurston, who is
in heaven; Sandy Korem and husband, Dan; Mike Brice and wife, Becky; Terry
Brice and wife Leanne; and Tim Brice.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Mr. Lamb’s care
givers, Saji Shiny and Rhonda Ansel. He
was preceded in death by his wife, Frankie Lamb in 1991.
Pallbearers will be Bryan Stuart, Doyce Gilmer, Adam Palmer,
David Lamb, Jonathan Lamb and Ron Sexton.
