Alice Louise (Mema) Laing, 91, of Greenville, died Friday,
July 28, 2017 at Greenville Health and Rehab.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at
Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Monroe McAnally officiating. Interment will be in Forest Park
Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 PM to
8:00 PM, Monday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Laing was born in Shaw, Mississippi on October 9,
1925. She was the daughter of Richard
Wheeler Jordan and Bertha May Daugherty Jordan.
She married Samuel G. Laing on May 30, 1941 in Greenville. She was retired from Haggar Slack after 35
years and was a housewife, mother and Memaw for 76 years.
Survivors include her son, Samuel Glenn Laing of Greenville;
daughter, Lou Ann Burnett of Greenville; brother, Jimmy Jordan of Greenville;
sisters, Jewell McAnally of Terrell and Virginia Priest of Greenville;
grandchildren, John Laing-Sparger, Johnna Hernandez, Bradley Laing, Tammy
Crouch, Sammy Laing, Richard Crouch, Carrie Laing, Kristina Cardona, Jason
Laing, Adam Laing, Ashley Laing, Brandy Burnett and James Laing; 34
great-grandchildren, including Vanessa and Carlos Mendez who were brought up by
“Memaw”; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, Marilyn Mae Laing;
Parents; sisters, Thelma Hamilton and Julie Magnani.
Pallbearers will be Jason Laing, James Laing, Hugo Cardona,
Brad Laing, John Laing-Sparger and Darrell Chandler.
