Farris Waylon (Poppy) Mims, 79, of Lone Oak, passed away
from liver cancer on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at his residence. A memorial service
will be held 10 A.M., Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home
Chapel. Visitation will be 9 am until service time.
Mr. Mims was born on January 17, 1938 in Hughes Springs,
Texas to Davis Wimberly Mims and Bessie Lee Haun. He married Darlene Windholz
on November 27, 1981 in Garland, Texas. In his early years, he worked for the
Dallas Morning News, a carpet layer, a truck driver and the last thirteen years
for Wright Park Golf Course in Greenville, Texas. He was a veteran of the
United States Navy and was on the U.S.S. Keppler.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Sue Mims; mother-in-law,
Mary Ann Norman; sons, Russell Mims and wife, Joie and Michael Crosby and wife,
Julie; daughters, Angie Twedell and husband, Mike and Michelle Hanson; brother-in-law,
Hubert Windholz and wife, Tina; sister-in-law, Donna Dunham and husband, Bob,
Becky Hills and husband, Mark, Debbie Jurcak, Geneva Mims and Bonnie Mims;
grandchildren, Holly, Amy, Jessica, Matt, Ashley, Madeline, Brody, Charli,
Maggie and Morgan; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; two
sisters; father-in-law, Hubert Windholz, Sr.; and mother of his biological
children, Rita Gay Welch.
