Dr. Carolyn Cooper Cartwright, 81, of Greenville, passed
away on April 12, 2018 at the Medical City of McKinney. Funeral services will be held on Friday,
April 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home with
Pastor John McKinzie officiating. Burial
will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the
Carolyn was born on August 14, 1936 in Henderson, Texas to
Samuel Elzie and Modene Brown Cooper.
She married Donald John Cartwright on July 17, 1964 in Atlanta,
She completed her Masters degree at East Texas State
University in Commerce, Texas and went on to complete her Doctorate of
Education in 1986. She taught in public
schools for 25 years, the last 13 years in Greenville, before finally accepting
a position as a professor at E. T. S. U. in 1984. Once she completed her Doctorate, she
accepted the position of Associate Professor at
Texas A&M University - Commerce and was also awarded
tenure. Carolyn retired from teaching in
2001 and was able to spend more time with her grandson. She attended Hope Fellowship in Frisco with
her daughter and son-in-law.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Melanie Ann Cartwright
Coons and husband, Jim of McKinney; sister, Donna Cooper Abercrombie and
husband, Abb of Henderson; grandchildren, Jacob Wayne Mitchell of Arlington and
Jaclyn CarolAnn Mitchell of Campbell.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and
daughter, Julia Lea Cartwright Mitchell.
Pallbearers will be Jay Abercrombie, Judd Abercrombie, Craig
Black, Justin Mitchell, Kris Nelson and Audie Vick.
