Retired Col. Ernest A. Rajala, family man,
community man, and countryman died May 3, 2018.
His memory and life live on, however, in family,
friends, and co-workers with whom he shared life and many good times. Ernest
married Dorothea Downey on June 21, 1952, in Lansing, Mich. They had two
children, Karl and Christina.
As a husband and father, Ernie revealed how loving
care and respect help and develop a family. His family love and respect him very
much. He was fortunate to work with many dedicated and honorable people in the
military and fortunate to work with the many compassionate and honorable people
in Greenville and greater surrounding areas. His war-time duty in the military
included World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He received several
service medals, including the Silver Star. Many times he was stationed
peacefully overseas and in the United States ó three years in Greece, two years
in Iran, two years in Korea, and stateside. After 30 years Ernest retired from
the US Army and worked for E-Systems and with community organizations such as
Hunt County United Ministries (Fish) and the United Presbyterian Church. Many
thanks go out to all of you, named and unnamed.
Ernie is survived by his wife, his daughter, his
two grandchildren, his daughter-in-law, and his sister.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at 2
p.m., Wednesday, May 16, at the United Presbyterian Church at 5905 Stonewall
Street, Greenville, Texas.
Memorial donations may be made to the donorís
charity of choice.
