Martin R. ( Pat ) Hawk
August 20, 1933 - October 28, 2021

Martin Raymond "Pat" Hawk, 88, of Greenville passed away on October 28, 2021 in Greenville. A Celebration of His Life will be held at a later date. Coker-Mathews Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Pat was born August 20, 1933 in Austin, Texas to Raymond Wallace and Effie Geraldine Hawk. He graduated from Austin High School in 1950 at the Age of 16 and attended the University of Texas Austin until 1953.

In 1953 Pat enlisted in the United States Air Force serving in San Antonio, Texas; California; England; and Furstenfeldbruck Air Base in Germany. While stationed in Germany, Pat was stationed with the 7330th Flying Training Wing and served as a mechanic and trainer, teaching other crews how to maintain their aircraft. He would practice with the German National Football Team and participated in Airforce sharpshooting competitions across Europe.

After leaving the Air Force at the end 1956, Pat came back home to Texas and started competing in amateur wrestling. In April of 1957, he met the love of his life, Mary Jo Smith on a blind date. After finding out that Pat was a wrestler at the last minute, Mary Jo hid in the bathroom and used the mirror to get a look at him before she met him. They were married five months later on September 6, 1957 in Dallas, Texas.

Pat spent the vast majority of his professional life in the aerospace industry. During the Apollo 1 - 13 missions, Pat worked as a Project Manager contracted to NASA at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral FL, He retired from Lockheed Martin in 1999.

From 1976 to 1981, Pat served first on the Southlake, TX City Council, then as Mayor. During this time, the first sewer system was installed and minimum lot sizes were established in areas that the system did not yet reach.

An unusual fact; Pat was the 10th Great-Grandson of Matoaka Pocahontas Powhatan on his fathers side.

Outside of his professional life, Pat was an avid reader and collector of books. He is a self published Author, who's research books "Hawk's Authors Pseudonyms" can be found in hundreds of libraries across the world. He enjoyed gardening, ranching and any sport he could convince someone to play with him.

Pat is survived by his daughters Sherri Michael and her husband Brady of Greenville, TX and Donna Jo Hawk of Utah; grandchildren, Brian Michael and his wife Kari of Greenville, Chrysta-Belle Higgenbotham and her husband Rocky of North Richland Hills, Mary Hawk of Justin and Cody Michael of Greenville; and great grandchildren Joan Michael, Clarabelle Higgenbotham, Taylor Hawk, and Rocky D. Higgenbotham.

Pat was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jo Hawk in 2012; his sons Robert Hawk in 2019 and Raymond "Butch" Hawk in 2011; and his sister Bobbie Geraldine "Gerry" Hawk in 2013.
