John Paul Cross
September 14, 1987 - June 29, 2023

John Paul Cross, 35, of Greenville, Texas passed away at his home on Thursday, June 29th, 2023.

John was born on September 14, 1987 to parents Bill and Susan Cross in Dallas, Texas. He was homeschooled, and a member of a thriving homeschool community. He received his GED in 2005, and went on to become a graduate of Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2015.

John collected many friends and stories over his life, and genuinely enjoyed spending time with people. He could make friends with anyone, and make that person feel important in short order. If he could be of help, he was there; to lend a hand or lift someone up. John was very patient, and a teacher at heart. If someone didn't understand something or know how to do something, he would go out of his way to explain it very thoroughly. These were his greatest gifts.

John was a fan of and skilled in machinery and mechanics, having grown up on the family farm operating equipment and tractors from a young age. He worked on cars and bikes, bringing things to life again, using his skills in his work and hobby time alike. He worked diligently at all that he put his hand to. He enjoyed creative endeavors, scribbling notes, doodling art, wood carving, and whatever else he set out to create. John enjoyed making and finding good and unique food and sharing it with others, from turning the simplest of ramen into a flavorful five star meal to bringing the best pork loin to a family potluck. John spent many hours with friends and his siblings playing every tabletop, card, board, or console game imaginable, and while the games themselves were there to be played, the purpose was the people he sought to fellowship with, the tales and laughter and memories built into every moment. He possessed incredible humor, the ability to quote endless movies, gentleness, and intelligence, and he was a lifelong student of thought and learning.

John was a father, and he used every opportunity he was given to be an engaged, loving Papa.

Many more lines could be written about his skills, hobbies, character, and life, and if you knew him, chances are, you have a good many stories that you will keep close to your heart.

John's loss will be felt in many families, homes, and communities, and he will be forever missed by all of those who loved him.

John is survived by his children, Scarlette, 12, and Malcolm, 6; his father Bill Cross and wife, Tracie; brothers Greg Cross and wife, Kelli, and James Cross and wife, Sara; and twin sister, Cinda Campbell and husband, Daniel; 10 nieces and nephews - Blane, Kahlan, Asher, Eveleen, Maggie, Elora, Matilda, Michael, Arielle, and Ruby; many Aunts, Uncles, and cousins; closest friends Isaac and Caity Rockett; and countless extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Susan Hutchins Cross, grandparents Margaret and Harry Cross, Jr. and Helen and Robert Edgar Hutchins, Jr. and an uncle, Mark Cross.

A memorial service is planned to celebrate John's life on Thursday, July 6th, 2023 at 6pm at Christ Community Church, 5500 Sayle Street, Greenville, Texas 75402. A fellowship meal will follow. One of John's favorite foods to share with friends and family was sushi, so please feel free to bring some, if you'd like.

Burial will be private on the family farm, immediate family only.
