Glen David Rucker
June 30, 1937 - July 27, 2023
Glen David Rucker, 86, passed away at UT Southwestern Hospital in Dallas, Texas, on July 27, 2023. He was surrounded by his daughters, dedicated medical staff, and clergy. Born June 30, 1937, in Hitchens, Kentucky, to Glen and Marie Prichard Rucker, he was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Dan, Tom, and Bob, and his wife of 58 years, Peggy Hughes Rucker.
Glen is survived by his daughters Megan and her husband Greg of Austin, Texas, Myra of Greenville, Texas, and sister Rebecca Blair of Somerset, Kentucky.
In 1954, Glen graduated from Erie School in Olive Hill, Kentucky. He attended Morehead State University and eventually transferred to the University of Kentucky. In 1959, Glen joined the Army and married Peggy at the Methodist Church in Oak Hill, Ohio. After returning to Lexington from his service duty and, with Peggy's support, Glen received his Engineering degree from the University of Kentucky in 1962, followed by his Master of Business Administration in 1963.
In 1963, Megan was born in Lexington, KY. After Glen's graduation, they moved to St. Charles, Missouri, and Myra was born in 1966. Soon after, they moved to Garland, Texas, and ultimately settled in Greenville.
Glen was employed by L3Harris (formerly E-Systems) for over 30 years in program management, retiring in 1997. He was fortunate to travel overseas during the latter part of his career, where he appreciated experiencing the cultures of other countries, including Australia, Ukraine, and New Zealand. In May 2000, Glen and Peggy built the home they loved and lived in for over 20 years. Glen especially enjoyed tending to his six acres and found solace working the land and walking among the trees in the evenings.
Glen enjoyed outdoor adventures, including hunting, and had exciting experiences alongside lifelong friends. He was an active member of Ducks Unlimited and other wildlife conservation programs. Glen looked forward to his and Peggy's trips back 'home' to Kentucky and Ohio to visit family. After Glen retired, they enjoyed traveling to Nova Scotia, Maine, and Canada. Later in life, Glen lovingly cared for Peggy during a long illness, and together they endured health adversities with strength and love.
Glen was a faithful Wesley United Methodist Church member for over 50 years, serving on many boards and teaching Sunday School. His devotion to God was evident in his life and service to others. He cared deeply for the church and the strong friendships he nurtured and embraced.
Glen is remembered for his leadership, devotion to his family and God. We honor his unwavering support and love for Peggy, Megan, and Myra. His sense of adventure inspires us. We will remember his appreciation and enjoyment of walking in the woods and observing the wildlife outside his windows. Megan and Myra are thankful to Dad's friends and church family for holding him in their warm embrace of care and love.
Donations may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 1200 Joe Ramsey Blvd E, Greenville, TX 75402. A memorial service will take place at Wesley United Methodist Church on August 26, 2023, at 1 pm.
