Barbara Lee Pitts

Barbara Lee Pitts, 89, of Azrou, Morocco, departed this life in Greenville, on December 2, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, December 14, 2024, in the chapel of Highland Terrace Baptist Church with Rev. Steven Harlos officiating. Interment will follow the service at Memoryland Memorial Park. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.
Barbara was born on September 14, 1935, in Washington D.C. to Thomas Hillary Carrico and Dorothy Lillian Merrill Carrico. Barbara married the love of her life James Luther Pitts on May 26, 1957, in Washington D.C., together they started a life-long journey of Missionary work in Morocco, North Africa which lasted 66 years. Barbara was the head cook at The Children's Haven, while Jim was director. She played the piano and led musical programs, reached out to neighbors, showed deep care for everyone, and always made you laugh. Over the years, she lovingly invested in each of the 101 children's lives. She was known for her heart of giving and joyful service to the Lord. Barbara was a loving mother to so many, grandmother and great grandmother.
Barbara is survived by her husband James Luther Pitts; sons, Jim Pitts, Jr., and wife Amber of Greenville, TX, Thomas Pitts and wife Renee of IL, Samir Sefiane of MD, Tarik Sefiane and wife Nicky of VA; daughters, Melodee Pitts of VA., Starr Anderson and husband Doug VA, Nisserine Whisman and husband Sam; grandchildren, Jeffrey Pitts and wife Christi, Jared Pitts and wife Ashly, Jihannah Hogge and husband Christopher, Joel Pitts and wife Kaleigh, Jon Pitts, Hannah Pitts, David Pitts and wife Shannon, Daniel Pitts and wife Juliana, Nathan Pitts and wife Carrie, Chance Anderson and wife Hadley, Koby Anderson, Devin Anderson, Lina Whisman, Luke Whisman, Evelyn Sefiane, Olivia Sefiane, Addison Sefiane; great-grandchildren, Owen, Wyatt, Liam, Thain, Liberty, Judah, Josselyn, Cadence, Brennan, Benjamin, Mordecai, Zachariah, Delilah, Alex, Theo, and Christopher.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, brother Thomas H. Carrico, sister Doris Marie West, and granddaughter Janessa Lauren Rose Pitts.
