Jean Alice Stewart

Jean A. Stabert Stewart, 88, passed away on February 4, 2026, in Rockwall, Texas. Jean was born in the Bronx, New York, June 26, 1937, the only child of William and Lillian Stabert and raised in Eastchester, NY. She attended Goucher College in Maryland where she met her first husband, Jerry Tatom, who was stationed at the nearby Naval base. They married in December 1958. Jerry took his Yankee bride home to Stamps, Arkansas. It was here that Jean created her first home and gave birth to two girls. The young family had the good sense of moving to Texas and Jean found the state she would call home for the rest of her life. She might have started life as a Yankee, but she became a Texan through and through! The couple divorced and Jean and her two girls moved to Commerce, Texas so that she could attend East Texas State University and finish her degree in Education. She attended the Lutheran Church in Commerce where she met a handsome widower with two children. She married her soulmate, Glen Stewart, on May 31,1968 beginning a life of joining two families together as one. There was no ''yours'', ''mine'' but only ''ours''. The greatest joy of her life was creating a loving family, and she was always there for her children with support, guidance, and encouragement. Jean eventually earned a Master of Science degree in Mathematics and Computer Science which she applied in her career at E-Systems as a Scientific Software Engineer. Upon her retirement, Jean and Glen enjoyed traveling in their RV making many lasting friendships along the way. Jean was outgoing and made friends easily, entertaining all with her sense of humor and witty remarks. She loved water and was an avid swimmer and skier. She enjoyed wintering in the RV at Port Aransas so she could enjoy the beach and watch dolphins. She was talented in needlework - sewing, knitting, crocheting and tatting. She loved to play games, especially Cribbage. Genealogy was one of her passions and she became the family historian for all branches of the family tree. Jean loved sweets in general but especially chocolate. Her favorite time of day was happy hour where she celebrated with a chocolate martini. She created many family traditions that live on today including peppermint pinwheel cookies and ice cream sundaes at the whim of her grandkids. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lillian Stabert, and her husband of 58 years, Glen Stewart. She is survived by her five children Rhonda Stewart Muller, Glen R. (Randy) Stewart (Lisa), Kathy Tatom Dougherty (Kirk), Karen Tatom Shelton (Mike) and William Stewart (Tamiko). In addition, her grandchildren Sean Muller (Tara), James Johnson, Glen R. (Rusty)Stewart (Kristi), Justin Blackwood (Amy), Ryan Shelton (Daria), Heather McGuire (Ronan), Tristan Taylor, Keegan Stewart (Veronica) and Lauren Stewart as well as14 and counting great-grandchildren.
