Donald E. Walker

Donald Eugene Walker, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on September 14, 2026 at the age of 99.
Donald was born in Brownfield, Texas, where he began his working life as an apprentice printer. Seeking new opportunities and a better life, he eventually moved to Dallas, working for the Dallas Morning News, where he built a life centered on family, hard work, humor, and service.
On September 3, 1948, Donald married the love of his life, Betty Walker. They were married for 69 years. Together, they raised two children: their son, Jerry Walker and their daughter, Cathy Walker.
Donald proudly served in the United States Army in support of the Korean effort. As a sergeant aboard a medical ship. His dedication, resourcefulness, and willingness to do whatever was needed reflected the character he carried throughout his life.
A man of many interests and talents, Donald loved being outdoors. He loved farming and gardening, daily problem solving with inventive solutions, and creating things through woodworking and other hobbies. He especially loved fishing and could often be found at Lavon Lake, enjoying the water in a boat he had built himself - a testament to his remarkable skill, creativity, and determination.
Donald was funny, engaging, and able to bring warmth and laughter to those around him. Above all, he was a wonderful father and even a better PawPaw to his extended family. He gave generously of his time, wisdom, humor, and love. His family will forever cherish the memories they made with him and the lasting example he set through his kindness, hard work, and devotion to those he loved.
Donald's long and well - lived life touched many people. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his friends and family. He was preceded in death by his wife, and 8 siblings. Donald is survived by his son, Jerry Walker (Lisa); daughter, Catherine Walker; and grandchildren, Scott Walker (Leanne), Kristin Branch (Josh), Laina Hubert (John); 7 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 20th 12:30 p.m. at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home, 5100 Interstate 30 Frontage Road East, Greenville, Texas 75402. Graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Memoryland Memorial Park, 808 W. Jack Finney Blvd., Greenville, Texas 75402.
