Janie Hammargren

Janie Marie Simpson Hammargren, age 74, of Celeste, Texas, peacefully entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on September 16, 2026.
Janie was born in Dallas, Texas, to her beloved mother, the late Grace Moorehouse. She dedicated her professional life to public service and law enforcement, building a distinguished career marked by integrity and dedication. Janie served with the FBI, the Greenville Police Department, and the Hunt County Sheriff's Office as a Detective. She concluded her impactful career working at Judge Duncan Thomas's office, where she retired in 2016.
Beyond her professional achievements, Janie's greatest joy was found in her family, her faith, and the simple pleasures of life. She loved a good shopping trip and trying her luck at the local casinos. Above all else, Janie absolutely lived for her grandchildren. They were the absolute light of her life, and she poured her entire heart into them, cherishing every single moment, milestone, and memory they shared together. Janie's life was also deeply rooted in her faith; she gave her life to God and walked with an enduring trust in Him, a devotion that guided her until the very end.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Steven Hammargren; her daughter, Ashley O'Connell; and her step-children, Bobby Vickery, Carley Vickery, and Dustin Hammargren; brother-in-law, Rusty Warren and wife, Debbie. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Alexa Hathcock, Waylon O'Connell, Garret Vickery, Peyton Vickery, Braely Vickery, and Destiny Hammargren, as well as five deeply loved living great-grandchildren; and nephews, David Warren and John Warren.
Janie was preceded in death by her first husband, Dick Simpson; her daughters, Emily Simpson Hathcock and Alicia Ann Simpson; her grandson, Hunter Hathcock; her mother, Grace Moorehouse; and her in-laws, Bill and Paula Simpson.
