Barbara Fry
January 28, 1952 - September 24, 2026

It is with great sadness that I inform you about the death of Barbara Behrns Fry. She fought a vigorous illness the past few months and finally succumbed to it on Thursday September 24, 2026.

She is survived by me, her husband Dave Fry. We married in March 1986 and renewed our vows in March 2015. She has 3 children - Curt Krafka (spouse Wendy Rios; Johnathan, Katherine and Pato), Jennifer Cheney (spouse David; Aiden), and Adam Krafka (spouse Meaghan; Andrew and Adelyn). Also, she has 3 step daughters - Jeanette Rowland (spouse Mike; Landon, Mikaela, Presley), Beth Fry (spouse Jeff Denny; Sylvie and Selene) and Dr. Pam Adkins (spouse Eric; Ruth, Wes and Will). She is also survived by her brothers Pat and Rick Behrns, and sisters Judy Peutz, Lisa and Beth Behrns as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

She worked at the hospital in Greenville for about 25 years and loved it there. Prior to that had worked as a nurse at the hospital in Columbus, NE and at offices and a nursing home in Greenville briefly. Her favorite job was as my transcriptionist while in Columbus! Her hobbies were seeing her grandchildren, baking, walking, reading novels and watching NCIS.

During her illness, she had some excellent care. We want to especially thank Baylor Rehab Institute in Frisco and ''Sweet Caroline'' her chief occupational therapist. Back in Greenville, we were lucky to have excellent help from the Visiting Angels daily, and from Centric Home Health and then Hospice. Those organizations truly put the patient and their family first and made our lives easier during difficult times.

There will be a celebration of her life at the Landmark on Lee Street in downtown Greenville at 2:30-4:30 pm on Friday, Oct 2. A second celebration of her life will be held in Columbus, NE before her ashes are joined with her parents in David City.

Any memorials or donations should be directed to Greenville's Women in Need, or to the Nebraska Downs Syndrome Foundation. She actively supported both of those organizations the past years.
