Paul began his career with Scandinavian Airlines as a baggage handler after completing his education in Denmark. He was promoted to lead their operations at the Greenland airport by the age of 21. Later, he was loaned to Thai Airways, where he assisted in its transformation into a premier international airline. Paul's career took him to numerous countries around the world, including Thailand, Korea, Bangladesh, Greenland, and Tanzania. His final assignment, unbeknownst to him at the time, was in Dallas, TX, where he met the love of his life, travel agent Marilyn. They married in 1985 and spent their lives traveling the world, cherishing time with their family, boating in Holly Lake Ranch, and visiting with their countless friends.
He is remembered as one of the founders of the popular game Balut and a many time champion, earning him the title ''Sir Richard'' among its international players in Scandinavia, Thailand, Singapore, and the Philippines.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Anna Lise Mortensen, brother Niels Mortensen, Mother-in-law Dell Kurlan and Sister-in-law Lynette Malkey.
He is survived by his beloved wife Marilyn Mortensen, daughters Kimberlee Phillips and husband Patrick and Mindi Lindsey, grandchildren Caleb and Téa Lindsey, Hannah Thornton, Jessica, Summer and Jordan Phillips, and honorary granddaughter Alyssa Miller, nieces
Malene Mortensen and partner Jorgen, Susanne Martins and husband Manuel, Lisa Beeson, Marcella Malkey, nephews Lars Mortensen, Peter Mortensen and wife Isabelle, Henrik Persson and wife Ida, Brant Malkey, Hank Brantley and partner Katy as well as many grandnieces and nephews, all whom Paul adored immensely.
A wake in Paul's honor will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at 1 pm at Taste of Italy by the Lake in Hawkins, TX.
Paul's family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the love and support received during this challenging time.
