Derick was born on December 7, 1987, in Tyler, Texas. He graduated from Greenville High School in 2006 and furthered his education at Texas A&M, Commerce. Derick made his career as an independent contractor.
Above all, Derick will be remembered for his generous heart, infectious smile, and unwavering loyalty to those he loved. He touched the lives of many with his humor, kindness, and willingness to lend a hand whenever needed. His absence leaves a void that can never be filled, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Derick is survived by a large and loving family, including his parents, Ricky and Paula Minyard of Campbell, Texas, and Ricky Self of Greenwood, Texas; his brothers, Aaron Self and wife Kaylee of Campbell, Texas, Cody Minyard and wife Brittney of McKinney, Texas; his sister, Lorie Martin of Sulphur Springs, Texas; brothers, Casey Self and family and Ricky Self Jr. and family of Greenwood, Texas; his nieces, Trinity Martin, Lawsyn Self, and Karsyn Self; and his nephews, Madison, Dobson, and Fox Martin. He is also survived by his beloved grandmother, Sherry Sue McPhearson, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and cherished friends who were like family to him.
Derick was preceded in death by his grandfather, James Paul McPhearson; his great-grandparents, Luther and Juanita McPhearson; and his cousin, Dale Thomas McPhearson, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Pallbearers who will honor Derick's life include Aaron Self, Cody Minyard, Michael McPhearson, Tom Scott, Madison Martin, and Eric Nash.
Honorary pallbearers will be Casey Self, Ricky Self Jr., Dobson Martin, and Fox Martin.
Derick's family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all who have offered their love, support, and condolences during this difficult time. His legacy will live on through the countless memories shared with family and friends, and he will forever be remembered as a kind soul who left an indelible mark on those lucky enough to have known him.
