Robert Roscoe Moore , Jr.

Robert Roscoe Moore, Jr., 63, of Greenville, passed away on April 15, 2025, in Sulphur Springs, Texas. A memorial service will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Authentic Life Fellowship. Visitation will be 10:00 A.M until service time at the church. Coker-Mathews Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Roscoe Moore, Jr. was born September 16, 1961, to Priscilla Gayle Davis Moore and Robert Roscoe Moore Sr. in Fort Benning, Georgia where Bob was stationed in the army.
The next year, they moved to Greenville where he became a BIG Brother to Melinda Cathleen.
Their mom spent lots of time reading to them and at 18 months, Rob became kind of a ''Big Deal'' when it was discovered that he could read the posters and medical descriptions in Dr. Nicholson's office.
By the age of 2, Rob was reading his dad's college textbooks and soon he would experience his first moment of public recognition by being featured on the front page of the local newspaper.
Being somewhat of a ''genius'', Rob continued to reveal his ''Brain Power'' throughout his childhood; for example, he memorized the entire news cast of when they landed a man on the moon and could recite the alphabet backwards.
Rob could quote entire song lyrics, memorize his favorite TV or Radio interviews and recall just about every stat for every player in Sports (especially Baseball and Football).
Needless to say, everyone wanted Rob on their Trivial Pursuit Team!
Although Rob's interests were outside of organized youth sports, in the 6th grade, he played football at Travis Elementary School and 7th grade, baseball for the YMCA.
Rob grew up going to church at Park Street Baptist Church where he was active in the youth group and he attended many camps, choir tours and Mission trips to the Texas/Mexico border.
After High School graduation in 1980, Rob began doing exactly what he would enjoy doing for the rest of his life.
He began working at the Greenville Herald Banner writing sports and news columns. Afterwards, Rob started working at the local Radio Station, KGVL. He mixed in a little DJ work, with jobs in Tyler and Corpus Christi but Greenville always called him back home.
Rob would eventually become the news anchor; pre-recording news slots to be played even when he was not there.
With his deep voice and knowledge of music, there is no denying that Rob was ''called'' to a career in radio, and he spent most his life working with people and at a place that he dearly loved. It was not until he physically could not get to work that he knew it was time for him to walk away from the airwaves.
While working at the radio station, he would have the opportunity to meet many celebrities, including Collin Raye, Pam Tillis, wrestlers Kerry, David and Kevin Von Erich, and many, many more.
Rob's other passion was wrestling, and it started early in the mid 1970's according to our inside reporter, Howard ''Peanut'' Brooks.
Brooks reports, ''while our moms were in choir practice for the coming Sunday service, the then foyer of Park Street Baptist Church was magically transformed to the Greenville location of the Sportatorium. Home of Big Time Wrestling. Led by Rob "Fritz von Erich" Moore. Brooks and the other kids would each take a role as Johnny Valentine, The Sheik, Bruiser Brody, Great Kabuki or whichever wrestler they watched late on Saturday night. Rob was always leading and knew his stuff. We all wanted to do the ''Iron Claw'', but that was Rob's move, and no one dared to use it!
Whenever Rob's boys at church were not around, he would take on the girls, his sister, Melinda, and friends Frankie and Gaye Priest.
His early love for wrestling would turn into a whole other career and life experience for Rob. Rob began announcing wrestling matches in Greenville on January 12, 1984, with the ''main event being Kevin Von Erich vs Freebird Buddy Roberts''. Rob would go on to do many ring-side events around the area in cities such as North Richland Hills, Denton, Arlington, Sherman and many, many others. In 2000, he started calling matches on television with NWA Southwest.
February 14, 2003, Rob met Tonya Martin. They met over 22 years ago on a blind date at Chili's that was setup by their respective supervisors at Hunt County MMHR and KIKT/KGVL and the rest as they say is history…
Rob and Tonya spent time together going to movies, concerts (especially Collin Raye), and many wrestling matches.
Rob was so blessed to find a partner who enjoyed spending a Saturday night watching people throw each other around, break tables, and smash metal chairs on each other's heads.
Rob loved his career as a ring-side announcer and received many accolades and recognition for his professionalism, knowledge and was a wonderful ambassador for the sport of wrestling.

• 2014 - Received PCW Lifetime Achievement Award

Rob was a calm and quiet soul until you put a microphone in front of him and then his whole personality changed. He was the consummate professional, a ring-side entertainer, and a wealth of knowledge. Rob was loved and respected by all who knew him and worked with him.
Rob and Tonya were married last December at Rock Creek Health and Rehabilitation Center where Rob was living and fighting his various illnesses.
Rob loved his family, he was always interested in what his niece, Morgan and nephew, Jacob was up to. He couldn't always get to them, but his interest and support was always voiced.
He was proud when he became a ''great uncle'' to their kids, Evelyn, Jackson, Judah and Jade.
This love and affection extended to Tonya's nieces as well, Mikayla and McKenna. He tried to see them when he could but once again, always interested in what they were doing and hearing about their accomplishments but not always able to be there.
For much of his life, Rob lived with his dad, Bob, and was a tremendous help and companion when his mom was sick. His caring demeanor never diminished, despite the circumstances of his health.
Rob passed peacefully on the morning of April 15th, 2025, with his bride Tonya at his side.
Rob is preceded in death by his mother, Priscilla Moore, uncle, Cary Davis, Grandparents, Opal and Royce Davis, Ruth and Roscoe Moore.
Rob is survived by his wife, Tonya, Dad, Robert R Moore, Sister Melinda Phillips, husband Jeff, Niece, Morgan Cano, husband Micah, Nephew Jacob Phillips, wife Emma, Brother-in-law, Robert Martin, Nieces, Mikayla and McKenna, great Nieces and Nephews, Evelyn, Jackson, Judah, and Jade.
Rob was a unique soul, and we were all blessed to have him in our life. To some he was known as ''Cousin Rob'', others, ''Smokey Rob Moore'', a son, brother, uncle, great uncle, co-worker, friend, and husband.
To all, Rob will forever be known as ''The Voice of Texas Wrestling''!

I will never forget my first night on air with "Both Robs" looking in the glass at me, or the many long days of getting spots in on time during football season. Rob working to schedule music, Mary working at Traffic, Jims music calls and I fixing computers or Friendlees telephone. Of all the craziness, Rob was a constant you could organize things around, and I dont think I heard him grumble once. Even when I upset his music rotation card box he worked so hard on, by shuffling the cards.
