I served in the Army.
Larry George Godwin, age 80, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and formerly a longtime resident of Celeste, Texas, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on July 26, 2025, at The Journey Home in Bartlesville, surrounded by his loving family.

Larry was born on January 17, 1945, in Greenville, Texas, to O.D. and Elvie Godwin.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marsha Gilliam Godwin; his children: Darron Godwin of Celeste, Jared and Cathy Godwin of Bartlesville, and Marcy and Jody Burch of Bartlesville; his grandchildren: Drew and Emily Godwin, Beau Godwin, Abby and Anthony Hughes, Reece Burch, Presley and David Rathbone, and Ryker Burch; and twelve great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Dewey and James Godwin; his sister, Christine McKenzie; and his granddaughter, Brittany Godwin.

Larry served six years in the National Guard and spent his career with TXU, retiring in 2000. After retirement, he worked for Celeste ISD and served as the mayor of Celeste. Larry found great joy in working on projects for his family and, in recent years, enjoyed being close to loved ones in Bartlesville.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the Chapel of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home, with son-in-law, Jody Burch officiating. Burial will follow at Celeste Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening, August 1, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Drew Godwin, Beau Godwin, Reece Burch, Ryker Burch, Anthony Hughes, David Rathbone and great-grandson Jayden Godwin.

Honorary pallbearers include friends Robert Collinsworth and Cheryl Johnson.

Donations may be made in Larry's memory to The Journey Home, a hospice care facility in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
