Born on September 14, 1962, in Phoenix, Arizona, David was the beloved son of Patricia and Leon DeVeny. From a young age, he was active in his community, participating in Indian Guides, Boy Scouts, and Little League Baseball. In high school, he played both tennis and trumpet and it was during these years that he developed a lifelong love for music.
David's love for music was intrinsic to how he lived his life. A primarily self-taught guitarist, he played passionately and never stopped learning. His knowledge of gear and instruments was extensive. He played all types of music but his heart and devotion were with the rock n rock of the 70's. He considered music to be a precious gift and a blessing. Dave - as his close friends called him - was truly a musician for music's sake.
David graduated from Greenville High School and went on to study at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.
David married Sherry Faulkner in 1988, and together they had one daughter, Shannon Nicole DeVeny. He was also a proud grandfather of Shannon's two sons, Ethan and Theo Maurer.
In 2006, David moved to Brownwood and began working at Barr Fabrication, where he helped create equipment for the oil and gas industry before quickly transitioning into the company's wind energy division. After many years in that industry, he returned to Greenville in 2020 with the love of his life, Amy Watson.
He is survived by his mother, Patricia Alexander DeVeny; his daughter, Shannon Maurer (Felipe); his sister, Dianne DeVeny; his aunt, Sue Ann Harting; his grandsons, Ethan and Theo and many cousins and close friends.
David was preceded in death by his father, Leon Richard DeVeny; his grandparents, Mary Sue and Sam Alexander, and Betty and Joe DeVeny; his uncle Gene DeVeny and, most recently, Amy Watson.
David will be remembered for his warm heart, generous spirit, deep love for his family, and his lifelong compassion for animals, including the dogs, cats, and many reptiles he lovingly cared for over the years. His kindness, quiet strength, and gentle soul touched everyone who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to an animal shelter of your choice in David's memory.

Campbell, TX Friday, October 10, 2025 You all are in my thoughts and prayers. I can’t stop thinking about one of the last conversations I had with Dave….. my eyes had tears of laughter streaming down my cheeks. It was Dave being the animated and hilarious man he was at all times. Dave spoke the truth and how he felt and never really held anything back. That’s what I admired most about him. His musical gift was and is one for the history books. The countless times my husband Benjamin went to jam with him or to set up somthing new. They shared that deep bond. I really never knew what they were talking about when it came to that stuff, smile and nod is what I did. The pure joy on Dave’s face when he was talking about music was one my husband shared. Dave would always text and thank me for letting him come out to play 😂😂😂. Only because we have 2 very young kids. Dave needed Benjamin and Benjamin needed Dave. I knew that in my heart. I know how much he missed Amy we spent a lot of times reminiscing about them, now I sit and reminisce about them both. I love you so much Dave give Amy a hug for me. May you forever rest in peace brother ❤️❤️❤️
