Mr. Smith was born January 7, 1931, Overland Park, KS. Son of the late Mary Ruby Hahn and Edward Jenkins Smith, Sr. Mr. Smith grew up in Prairie Village, KS and graduated in 1950 from Shawnee Mission High School, Mission, KS. He completed his BS in physics at the University of Albuquerque in 1969. Mr. Smith was a Naval Air Reservist for 8 years at USNR Olathe, KS.
In 1953 he began his career in engineering at Westinghouse Corp., Kansas City, MO as a Test Engineer. He worked as a Service Department Tech Writer at Boeing Company in Wichita, KS and at ACF, Albuquerque, NM as a Project Engineer. In 1969 he and his family moved to Amarillo, TX where he was employed as Project Engineer, Mason and Hanger-Pantex Plant and retired in 1997 after 27 years. He moved to Greenville, TX in 2007 after living 38 years in Amarillo, TX and 11 years in Albuquerque, NM.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, dogs, camping and airplanes. He had a private pilot license in the 1970's and 1980's. He was a member of the Texas Rifle Assn., the National Rifle Assn. and a Master Mason with membership in Lodge #436 in Overland Park, KS.
Mr. Smith married Dorothy Marie Lane in Kansas City, MO June 27, 1956. They have three sons: Edward Jenkins III, Bradley Frank and Randal Montgomery Smith.
He is survived by sons: Edward in Fayetteville, NC, granddaughter Chelsay Lewynn Copeland and great granddaughter Aria, of Fayetteville, NC: Bradley and his wife Karen of Greenville, TX, grandson Shayne Avary Smith and his wife Rachel Lilly; Randal and his wife Donna, grandson Jared Patrick Smith of Fernandina Beach, FL; cousins Linda Hahn Martin, Albuquerque, NM; Mary Georgianne Hahn Whitfield Donner, Olathe, KS; Sarah Hahn Osborn, Saline, KS, Mrs. Barbara (John W.) Hahn, Albuquerque, NM.
He was preceded death by his wife, his parents, Aunt and Uncle John and Georgina Sims Hahn, George and Grace Hahn and Cousin John W. Hahn, Albuquerque, NM.
The family thanks Centric Home Health and Hospice service for their compassion and assistance during Ed's last days. The family is especially grateful to Fatima Reyes, Mr. Smith's devoted caregiver.
There will be no service. Mr. Smith's ashes will be scattered off the Florida coast at the same location as his wife's.
