Mary graduated from East Texas State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1975. She enjoyed a distinguished career in public accounting and financial planning as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Financial Planner (CFP). In 1977, she became a founding partner of Ainsworth and Lambert in Commerce, Texas. In 1985, she helped establish and served as the Managing Partner of the firm's Greenville office.

She was a mentor to many, a leader in her profession, and a steadfast supporter of her community.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Mary embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. She loved to travel and especially cherished time spent at her summer home in Ruidoso, New Mexico. She and Pete were devoted supporters of Texas A&M football and were longtime season ticket holders. Some of their happiest weekends were spent in College Station, tailgating with friends from their motorhome before cheering on the Aggies. Mary also treasured the many friendships she built over the years and rarely missed an opportunity to gather around a bridge table, enjoying spirited games and laughter with friends several days each week.
Above all, Mary cherished her family and took great pride in the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her warmth, wisdom, generosity, and unwavering faith left a lasting impact on all who knew and loved her.
