June was born on January 12, 1932, in Walker County, Texas, to Henderson Yoakum Pegoda and Lillian Christine Welch. She married Hollis D. Garmon on June 9, 1953, in Houston, Texas.
June enjoyed a variety of careers throughout her life and never met a stranger. She met Hollis while working as a legal secretary at Stewart Title Company in Houston. After Hollis became an attorney and opened his own practice in Greenville, she continued working alongside him as his secretary. She later worked as a Chapter Representative for the United Way of Greenville for more than ten years, helping to organize annual fundraising campaigns. From 1966 to 1976, Hollis and June built and operated the Tawakoni Inn Restaurant. In the early 1990s, she owned a quilt, candle, and antique shop in Lone Oak.
June was active in her community, serving on the American Lung Association Board and on the Lone Oak School Board for many years.
June loved fishing along the banks of the Sabine River in her own backyard and taking family members to The Barge on Lake Tawakoni. She enjoyed traveling, including trips to Tennessee to visit her sister and even an adventurous journey to the Holy Land with her sister and sister-in-law. She was very proud of her brother, William "Bill" H. McGlaun, a gifted artist who created numerous bronze sculptures. His work included a sculpture for the Texas A&M College of Education in College Station, a commissioned wildlife piece for the Texas Governor's Office in Austin, and a special piece created for the Pope at the Vatican. June loved preparing each family member's personal favorite dessert during the holidays. Her grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews, would beg her to tell scary stories where she liked to make them jump at the unexpected ending. She was known for her outgoing personality, strong work ethic, and ability to make everyone feel welcome. June's greatest joy was time spent with her family. Her laughter, generosity, and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Gloria Jean Garmon of Greenville, Texas; granddaughter Rachel Croitz Campbell and husband, Brett, of Centralia, Illinois; grandson Jonathan Hollis Croitz and wife, Rocio, of San Angelo, Texas; great-grandchildren Matthew and Elizabeth Croitz of San Angelo, Texas; her son, Jason Thomas Garmon; granddaughter Hailey Hull and grandson Saxton Garmon; sister Jeane Baker of Springfield, Tennessee; sister Sharon Ducharme and husband Rick of Montgomery, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, William "Bill" H. McGlaun; and her husband, Hollis D. Garmon, who passed away on March 19, 2019.
