Dorothy Ackles
October 8, 1924 - October 20, 2014
Dorothy Nell (McNatt) Ackles of Greenville, slipped quietly
into the open arms of the Lord on October 20, 2014. She was born in Greenville on October 8, 1924
and raised by her beloved “Papa” Floyd McNatt.
She was a member of Gussie Nell Davis’ original Flaming Flashes drill
team while in high school and later attended East Texas State Teachers
College. She met Gene Ackles of Charleston,
WVA at the USO during WWII while stationed at Majors Field, and they were
married on October 14, 1944 before he left for his tour of duty with the 8th
Air Force. She was a longtime employee
of First Greenville National Bank and was a member of Wesley United Methodist
Church before moving to Garland, where she became a member of Woodcreek Church
in Richardson, TX.
Her beloved family includes son Richard and wife Myra; son
Alan and wife Donna; grandson Josh and wife Alexis and great-grandsons Logan,
Lincoln and Levi; grandson Jensen and wife Danneel and great-granddaughter
Justice; granddaughter MacKenzie and husband Jeremy Stauffer and grandson
Pierson; and extended families in Atlanta and Las Vegas. She is preceded in
death by her husband, Gene, in December 2001.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 25 from 10:00 am to 12:00
pm at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home with graveside services to follow at 12:30 PM
at Memoryland Memorial Park. Dr. Bill
Brewer and Dr. Mark Engelthaler will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Richard Ackles, Alan Ackles, Josh
Ackles, Jensen Ackles, Jeremy Stauffer and Bob Boatright.
“Gran” as her family called her, will be remembered as a
devoted Christian woman who loved her family, her friends, her Bible, her hymns
and her country. An exemplary wife,
mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, she was a prayer warrior for
all of us through the years. She was
just as beautiful inside as she was on the outside. Thanks Mom for your example, your patience
and for so many sweet memories. You will
live in our hearts forever.
