David Hilton Gish Sr.
December 2, 1934 - June 20, 2009
David Hilton Gish, Sr., 74, of Greenville passed away on June 20, 2009, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, TX. Services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with Fr. Gordon Miltenberger officiating. Reception will follow at St. Paul’s Parish Hall. Coker-Mathews Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Born on December 2, 1934, in Lincoln, NE., he was the son of Harold Stanley Gish and Blossom Virginia Hilton Gish. He was educated at Schreiner Military Institute and later attended Southern Methodist University.
On June 2, 1956, he married Beverly Ann Becton Gish, daughter of Dr. Joe Becton and Edith Rachel Becton in Greenville, TX. He was employed at E-Systems for 38 years as a Senior Design Engineer.
He served his community in many civic capacities. He was active in Boy Scouts of America where he fulfilled leadership roles including serving on the Commissioner’s Round Table for Circle Ten Council. He also was awarded the Silver Beaver Award in recognition of his distinguished service. At St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, he served as Junior and Senior Warden. He was active in the Greenville Entertainment Series and in the Greenville Symphony Series. Also, he served on the board of directors for the Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum. In 1964 he served as delegate from Hunt County to the National GOP Convention. He was well-known for his passion for antique cars, serving as president of the Northeast Texas Region Antique Automobile Club of America. His love for cars included antique Cadillacs and Pierce Arrows.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Ann Becton Gish of Greenville, TX.; his son David Hilton Gish, Jr. and wife Lisa Burgin Gish; his daughter Lisa Gish Stewart and husband Jimmy Stewart; grandchildren Nikki Eastham Porter, Philipp Eastham II, Amber Eastham Alford, Amanda Gish, Kaleigh Eastham, Evelynne Gish, Kegan Eastham, Morgan Stewart, Dakota Stewart, Brandie Stewart, and Troy Stewart; and great-grandchildren Lennon Porter, Kaden Eastham, and Lana Stewart.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harold Stanley Gish and Blossom Virginia Hilton Gish of Ft. Worth, and sister Nancy Gish Ferguson of Sarasota, FL.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Building fund, 8320 Jack Finny Blvd, Greenville, TX.
