Martha Mason

Martha Louise Mason, 87, died peacefully on June 2, 2014.  She was born in Denison, Texas on November 14, 1926, to J. B. and Charlotte Williams of Greenville, Texas.  In 1946, she married the love of her life, Jack C. Mason, on March 27, 1946.  They had one son, Michael C. Mason.

Martha loved the water, water skiing and fishing, and she and Jack spent many joyful hours at their lake house on Lake Cypress Springs.  Martha loved singing in the choir at Lee St. Methodist, later Westview United Methodist Church, and she sang many lovely solos.  She was a switchboard operator and teletype operator at Robin Hood Flour, and later the new accounts teller at First Greenville National Bank on the square in downtown Greenville.  Gardening and flowers were a passion of Martha’s and she loved being outdoors.

Martha was predeceased by her parents, her husband Jack, a brother Jimmy and a sister Anna Elizabeth.  She is survived by her son Mike and his wife Mary of Garland, TX, grandsons Jeff Mabeck and his wife Katy of Corvallis, OR, John Mason and Robert Taylor both of Garland, and great-grandchildren Harper and Ames Mabeck, her brother Jerry Williams and wife Diana, and nieces and nephews.

Martha’s family would like to thank the staff at The Family’s Choice in Richardson who gave Martha such amazing tender loving care for the last four years: Joy, Hilda, Molly, Pauline and the rest.

Visitation will be held at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, with funeral services 10:30 AM, Friday at Westview United Methodist Church.  Burial will be at Memoryland Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Fred Blundell, Del Oyler, Robert Taylor, Joe McQuade, Alex Hernandez and Larry Coggins.  Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Harvey and Hardy Parrott.

In lieu of Flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to Westview United Methodist Church in Greenville or to the Alzheimer’s Association.

"Mike, we were very saddened to hear of the loss of your mother and our dear friend. Your family was part of our lives for so many years, and besides being another "mom & dad" to us, Martha and Jack were such precious next door neighbors. Our prayers are with you and Mary and the boys."

"Mike, my deepest condolences on the passing of your mother. Martha and Jack were two of the nicest people I've ever known. I remember going with my parents and your parents to out-of-town stage band concerts and football games to see you and Brent, and it was always a fun time to be in their presence. Hope your many happy memories help ease your sorrow."
