Jerry Wayne Simmons, 79, of Greenville went home to be with the Lord on November 5, 2014 at Medical Center of McKinney after a long and courageous battle the last few years. A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel.
Born August 24, 1935, in Greenville, Jerry was the son of Verna and Ruby Alice (Wilkinson) Simmons. He married Margot Patterson in Greenville on April 30, 1982. He was retired from
E-Systems as a senior accountant. Jerry was an avid bowler and a legend at the Hilltop Bowling Alley in Greenville. He bowled his first 300 at a sanctioned tournament in Greenville.
Jerry will be missed by all that knew and loved him. He was a devoted husband and father, and the most fabulous grandfather, brother, friend, employee and even patient that you could ever know. He had many talents besides his unlimited capacity for wit and unending love.
His survivors include his wife, Margot, of Greenville; children Aletha Poe of Greenville, LaFoy Davis of Greenville, Joy Shivers of Cash, and Delilah Henderson of Trinity; brother Johnny Simmons of Wichita Falls; sister Judith Ann Plunkett and husband Bill of Round Rock; grandchildren Caroline and Colton Cummings, Alexandra Poe, Philip Davis, Timothy Davis, Chad Hogue, Crystal Henderson, and Master Sgt. Trey Holley; great-grandchildren Everett Cummings, Von Hogue, Vivian Hogue, Abigail Davis, Zoe Davis, Kemper Henderson, Brooklynn Holley, and Kaitlynn Holley; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Verna Simmons, Jr. and Billy Simmons, and sister Peggy Davis.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Children’s Network or St. Jude’s Hospital.
