Ronald Eagleton Reid, 67, went home to the Lord on December 17, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his family following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday at Park Street Baptist Church in Greenville, Texas, with Rev. Johnny Hailes officiating. Interment will follow at Ladonia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home in Greenville.
Ronnie was part of a large family of Eagletons that migrated to Texas, settling in Ladonia in the 1800’s. He was born March 6, 1947, to Helen Banks Reid and John Eagleton Reid in Midland, Texas, where he was raised and graduated from Midland’s Lee High School. He attended Texas Tech in Lubbock and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. A very patriotic American, Ronnie served in Company 3rd Battalion, 2nd infantry. He faithfully served the L-3 Communications in Greenville for 37 years until his retirement.
Ronnie was married 23 years to Margarita de Guzman (Margie) Reid. They enjoyed farm life at Ardis Heights near Greenville, raising longhorn cattle and a host of other animals, including his beloved Chihuahuas. He was an active member of Park Street Baptist Church. Ron also enjoyed collecting antiques, flea markets and auctions. Among his favorite hobbies was knife-making, and he became a master craftsman of extraordinary knives and walking sticks. He took joy in giving these as gifts to family and friends. He was an avid CB operator, known in the CB world and to his friends as “Rooster.” His membership with the Fraternal Order of Knights of Pythias prompted him to become actively involved with the Salvation Army where he regularly read scripture to people who gathered there. He was blessed to be a part of these organizations, especially during disaster relief efforts like Hurricane Katrina.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his father and his brother, Barry. He is survived by his wife, Margie, of the home; his mother, Helen Reid of Houston, his sister Judy Tripp (Hank) of Houston; two loving daughters Denise Rogers (Bill) and Marcia Rogers (Stacey) of Arkadelphia, AR; four grandchildren Josh, Justin and Lewis Rogers and Samantha Rogers Thrift; aunt Sharon Allen; four great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. His wit, humor and kind heart will be missed by many.
Pallbearers will be Bill Rogers, Stacey Rogers, Josh Rogers, Justin Rogers, Lewis Rogers, Allen Cook, Paul Scott and Bill Davis.
Memorials may be made to Park Street Baptist Church or The American Cancer Society.
