Louis III (Buzz) graduated from New Braunfels High School in 1963 and enrolled in college at San Marcos (Southwest Texas State College, later Southwest Texas State University) in the fall of 1963. In the fall of 1964, he enrolled in East Texas State College (later East Texas State University and Texas A&M University-Commerce) in Commerce, Texas, where he became the protégé of Dr. Jack Bell with the Journalism Department. Louis met Robbie McCoy (Dr. Bell’s student secretary) who was impressed by his prestigious reputation as a journalist. Robbie and Louis fell in love and were married on June 14, 1970, in the First Christian Church of Gainesville.

Louis continued to work for Texas A&M University – Commerce in various positions ending his career as property manager. At the time of his retirement, Louis had worked for the university for over 40 years.

"Sorry to hear about the passing of Louie. As a freshman at SWT he worked with me as a student assistant in sports information. He and his friend Mike
Davis were two of the most efficient SID aides I ever had. He mentioned an interest in a career SID, so I encouraged him to go to ETSU, which turned out to be his career.
It was great to know Louie. He pulled my bacon out of the fire and made my life easier as a rookie SID. He is certainly a bright star in my 32 years in higher education."
