On the evening of Wednesday, January 7th, 2015, Jesus drew near to one of His beloved, Audrey Jean Burton Miller, took her by her faithful heart and hand, and walked her finally home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday at Highland Terrace Baptist Church with Rev. Royce Litchfield and Zachary Frazier officiating. Interment will follow at Caddo Mills I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.
Audrey was born December 31, 1934, in the Paradise Community, Hunt County, to loving parents Otis Henry Burton, III, and Efna Ann Farmer Burton. She attended school in Caddo Mills, Texas, growing up as an only child but surrounded by an amazing array of close extended family.
On December 19, 1959, she married her best friend, her heart mate, Malcolm Welch Miller, who has survived her. Their love here on this earth endured, overcame, and fully filled 55 years. From this love came three daughters. They each also survive Audrey, and are Sonya Clark and husband Jerry Clark of Caddo Mills, Leah Cathy Miller of Wolfe City, Michelle Frazier and husband Stephen Frazier of Caddo Mills. Grandchildren are Amber Harvey and husband Brian Harvey of Kaiserslautern, Germany, Daniel Clark and wife Kris Ann Clark of Commerce, Dustin Clark and wife Nancy Clark of Mabank, Zachary Frazier and wife Mia Frazier of Marshall, and Isaac Frazier of Denton. Also surviving her are 3 great-grandchildren, McClain & Brooks Clark, and Grady Clark. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Ralph Willard Burton who passed away in infancy.
Audrey spent most of her life making a home full of faith and giving with Malcolm and her family. There were times she was employed at Haggar Pant Factory in Greenville, wrote a regular social article for the Caddo Mills Mirror, sold Mary Kay Cosmetics, and had in-home childcare for several young children that became dear to her heart.
Audrey and Malcolm were charter members of Vansickle Baptist Church in the Vansickle Community, serving there for many years. From the late 1970’s through her passing, they were members at Highland Terrance Baptist Church in Greenville.
Audrey was active for several years in the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a member of the Eastern Star. She loved family genealogy, and spent many years researching, documenting and maintaining this history. She also had a passion for people of all ages, which she best expressed for decades by mailing hundreds of cards each year for birthdays, Christmas, and at times of illness or loss.
She was most of all beloved, the epitome of dedication and endurance, living out loud her love and faith. Her husband and family will carry her example of what it means to be Christ-like, always giving your best to and for others, with us always. We will strive to live up to the legacy God gave us in her, my Wife, our Mom, our Grandmoms, our Audrey.
Pallbearers will be Tod McMahan, Mark McMahan, Laverl Smith, Terry Jones, Dustin Clark and Daniel Clark. Honorary pallbearers will be Isaac Frazier, Brian Harvey, Jimmie Earl Luna, and Leon Farmer.
