Carolyn Irene Gray Smith, 64 of Celeste Texas, slipped quietly away after a courageous yearlong battle with liver and kidney disease on the afternoon of Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas.
Visitation will be Saturday March 7, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home in Greenville, Texas. Funeral services will be Sunday, March 8, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Burial will be at Dulaney Cemetery. A reception will immediately follow at 5 p.m. at First Baptist Celeste.
Born January 29, 1951 in Greenville, Texas, she was “chosen” to be the first child of Howard Monroe Gray and Mildred Marie Hansford Gray of Greenville, Texas when she was 18 months old. Carolyn graduated as a proud member of Celeste High School Class of 1969 where she was a cheerleader.
On August 7, 1969 she wed the love of her life David Manual Smith.
She would go on to become a master gardener and a certified ceramic instructor. Later she excelled in multiple classes of photography, upholstery, cake decorating, and sign language. She enjoyed planting flowers, traveling, flower arrangement, baking, cooking, and sewing. She fulfilled her lifelong dream of being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker.
She is survived by her husband of 45 and a half years David Smith of Celeste, TX; Daughter Celeste Burns and husband Chris of Celeste, Texas; Son Matthew Smith and wife Stephanie of Greenville, Texas; Grandchildren Mia Burns, Moriah Smith, Lillith Smith and Ford Smith; Sister Sharon Vice and husband Benny of Sulphur Springs, Texas; Brother Dennis Gray and wife Susan of Greenville, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Mildred Gray.
