Louise McSweeny

Louise McSweeny, 92, of Greenville, died Monday, March 23, 2015 at Briarcliff Health Center, Greenville. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Johnson Street Church of Christ under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Randy Daw will officiate. Interment will be at Memoryland Memorial Park. Visitation will be Wednesday, 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

Mrs. McSweeny was born in Prescott, Arkansas on November 26, 1922. She was the daughter of Robert Lee Porter and Fannie Mae Billingsley Porter. She married C. M. McSweeny on December 2, 1939 in Artesia, Arkansas. She was a member of the Johnson Street Church of Christ. Mrs. McSweeny was a retired cafeteria worker at Travis Elementary School and a former Pink Lady at the hospital.

Survivors include daughters, Betty Jean Sowell of Aurora, Colorado and Diane Patty of Loxley, Alabama; sons, Connie Ray McSweeny and wife, Linda of Rowlett and Harold McSweeny and wife, Kim of Odessa; brothers, Robert E. Porter and wife, June of Hope, Arkansas and Richard L. Porter and wife, Margaret of Hope, Arkansas; sister, Vernice Harris of Greenville; grandchildren, Lori Hill, Jessica Davis, Ryan Sowell, Barcus Patty, Jennifer Butts, Sarah Patty, Heather McSweeny, Amanda Constantine, Carey McSweeny and Callie Sallee; fourteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; grandson, Jay Hill; brother, Carl Porter; sister, Ruby McSweeny; and an infant brother.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Sowell, Barcus Patty, Don Angell, Lynn Harris, Kris Ivy and Joe Mac Ivy.

"While she was 92 years of age, she was not at heart.

For those of us who got to see or talk to her once more before she went home, there is some small comfort in knowing we got to share with her was on our heart one last time. These moments are precious. I would like to think that maybe our presence, helped her to prepare to leave us but I know more selfishly it really helped us to be able to let her go.

I am grateful to all her friends and church family in Greenville for the kindness, compassion and love they showed to my Nana. There are not words to describe how wonderful she was. It is unfathomable to comprehend how many hearts she might have touched in her 92 years but for the hearts she touched she will forever live in a special corner of these.

As Randy said at her service, the only thing left to do is to get on out there and honor her memory in a way she would see fit. Some of her own words in her final hours seem more meaningful now. I hope it will live as her last important message to us.

She said, "y'all get on out of here and close the gate".

Miss you dearly Nana."
