Billy Joe Goble
Billy passed peacefully from this life the morning of March 27th after a long battle with cancer. He was surrounded and supported by his loving family and caregiver during the last days of his life.
Billy was born in Boaz, Alabama on November 14, 1952 to Betty and Cleatus Goble. He grew up in Albertville, AL., but has been in Texas since 1965. Billy married Lisa Renick Smith on March 15, 2003 in Alba, Texas where he lived the remainder of his life.
Music was Billy’s passion. He played in a band for many years. Didn’t matter what type, jazz, country, rock, blues. He loved it all.
He started in the electrical field in his twenties and ended in 2014 when he could no longer work. He loved to watch a project go from the ground to handing the facility over to the owner. Throughout his career, he mentored several up and coming project managers. If you wanted to learn, he was the first to jump in and teach. He was also a prankster. Just ask anyone that worked with him.
Billy was an avid fisherman. Lake Fork became home in 2001 after moving from Allen, TX. Many hours were spent on the lake looking for that 10lb bass. He settled for a barn door crappie. He said that’s why they call it fishing.
Billy is survived by his loving wife Lisa Renick Goble; three sons (and spouses): Bryan Goble (Chrisilda), Aaron Goble and Chris Smith (Michelle); four beautiful granddaughters: Angelica, Alyssa and Cailey Goble, Tagen Smith; and two grandsons: Jaime and Joseph Guevara. He loved his grandkids. They were still just babies to him. Billy is also survived by his brothers Wayne Goble and Johnny Goble, aunts Faye Marty, Peggy Claburn and uncle Eugene Jones. He was preceded in death by his father Cleatus Goble, Betty Spafford, step-father Mike Spafford and son Jason Christopher Goble.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 31st at 2:00pm at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel, 5100 Interstate 30, Greenville, TX 75402. Donations can be made to Hospice Plus, 8285 Fleishel, Tyler, TX 75701.
