Joan Paulette Nichols Barrett, 62, of Commerce, passed away on August 22, 2015 at the Hunt Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the chapel of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Hazelip officiating. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Big A Cemetery in Rowlett. Visitation will be held on Monday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Paulette was born April 23, 1953 in Florence, Arizona to Tom Alonzo and Bessie McNeill Nichols. She married Kenneth Barrett on June 26, 1970 in Garland, Texas. She worked as a stock clerk in receiving with Target for 21 years. Paulette was a member of the Old Concord Baptist Church.
Paulette is survived by her husband, Kenneth Barrett of Commerce; sons and daughters-in-law, David Barrett and wife, Shannon of Hallsville, Chris Barrett and wife, Nichole of Little Elm, Greg Barrett and wife, Kristie of McKinney; sisters, Pauline Dalton of Salon, Arizona, Mildred Woods of Garland; brothers, Sherman Lee Nichols of Garland, Billy Ray Nichols of Van, Jack Nichols of Josephine, Butch Nichols of Garland; grandchildren, LaCrista Brookshire and husband, Casey, Malik Brown, Crishawn Barrett, Grace Barrett, Bryson Barrett, Madison Barrett, Kyan Barrett, Katie Barrett, Ryan Barrett; great-grandchildren, Cayden Brookshire, Liam Brookshire; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Paulette is preceded in death by her parents; an infant son; and sisters, Leona Braum, Hazel Hall, Wilma Foster Brooks and Patsy Thomas.
