Betty "Jean" Baldwin passed away Sunday evening, November 8, 2015, following a brief stroke. She was surrounded by her loving husband of 62 years and her family.
The funeral will take place at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Highland Terrace Baptist Church, under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Dr. Chet Haney and Rev. Royce Litchfield will be officiating. The burial will follow immediately after the funeral at Lakeside Memorial Cemetery in Quinlan, Texas.
Jean was born in Quinlan, Texas on December 22, 1931, to Ephriam Bradley and Linnie Eora Holbert. She was the youngest of 7 children and lived in Quinlan until the 1940's when her family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas. Jean graduated from W. B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi and shortly thereafter met Naval 3rd Class William "Bill" Henry Baldwin, Jr. at the Second Baptist Church where they both attended. They were married on March 13, 1953, raised three children while living in Corpus Christi and moved back to Quinlan in 1980 to a beautiful home in the country. She loved people to come visit from their church or even complete strangers to stop by and inquire about her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens.
Jean's love for the Lord could be seen daily in the way she treated others, her ability to be totally selfless, and her willingness to listen endlessly to others when they were in need. Jean's faith guided all aspects of her life and resonated to her family and friends. She loved singing in the church choir, cooking for her family and going on trips with the Senior Adults at Highland Terrace Baptist Church.
Jean is survived by: her husband, William Baldwin; son: James Baldwin and wife Donna of Rowlett, TX; daughters Julia Cann and Mary Breathwitt of Greenville, TX; grandchildren: Rachel, Brandy, Mark, Samantha, Nathan and Travis; sister: Dorothy Stephens, 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her parents: Ephriam and Linnie Holbert, and siblings: Homer, Francis, Billy Louise and Joe.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial can be given to the Senior High School Scholarship Fund at Highland Terrace Baptist Church.
