On September 6, 1920, in San Antonio, Texas, the world could not have known then what a unique young lady had been born to Edgar Trick, Sr., and Margaret Trick. Dottie married Jack Howard Kirkpatrick in San Antonio in 1941 during World War II. They lived in Nebraska, Arkansas and Kansas before settling in Texas between Celeste and Greenville in 1959. Dottie and Jack had two daughters, Margaret Kirkpatrick Timberlake and Joanna Kirkpatrick Dunn.
Dottie was a strong woman who survived breast cancer in 1957. She actively walked the American Cancer Society Relay for Life into her 90s.
Her family joined Grace United Presbyterian Church in 1959. Throughout the years, she held several positions in the church, sang in the choir, played the piano and taught Sunday school. She was a member of Presbyterian Women.
Dottie worked as a payroll/bookkeeper for Henson-Kickernick, and she retired from the Hunt County Sheriff’s office in 1985. After retirement, she occasionally substituted for the County Clerk's office.
Dottie's petite stature held a colossal amount of compassion. Her smile and laugh were her signatures. Devoted to the community, she regularly volunteered at Hunt County Shared Ministries (FISH), Habitat for Humanity and Women in Need (WIN). She enjoyed reading, was a fixture at the public libraries and read for children at Celeste Elementary. She participated in many bowling leagues at Hilltop Bowl, striving for that perfect 300 game.
As a lover of the arts and nature, Dottie and her husband were actors in the John Boles Theater Group/Blackland Players Theater and supporters of the Greenville Entertainment Series. She relished in going to concerts and plays. She basked in nature, rode her bike and loved long walks on the back roads. She was an avid bird watcher using her binoculars to survey all the different birds that would appear in the multiple bird houses she built over the years. She absolutely loved the farm she and Jack built near Celeste naming it "Shad-O-Wood."
Dottie is survived by her daughter, Joanna Dunn of Celeste, Texas; nephew, Harold Trick of Tucson, Arizona; nieces: Fran Johnson, Thelma Clancy, Sarah Dolan of Tyler, Texas; grandchildren: Jessica Grinstead and her husband, Steven of Rockwall, Texas; Matthew Timberlake and his wife, Amy L. of Greenville, Texas; Shelley Nunnelee and her husband, Russell of McKinney, Texas; Amy D. Timberlake of Denison, Texas; great grandchildren: Emma and Ella Grinstead; Mattilynn, Annabelle, Juanita, and Elliott Timberlake. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; brother, Edgar Trick, Jr.; and daughter, Margaret Timberlake.
Pallbearers will be Harold Trick, Matthew Timberlake, Steven Grinstead, and Rusty Nunnelee.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations for Relay for Life of Hunt County.
