John T. Wells, Jr., 84, of Greenville, passed away on January 31, 2018 at the Baylor Hospital of Carrollton. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018, at the chapel of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home with Pastor Charlie Hubbard, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
John was born in Greenville, Texas on September 1, 1933 to John T. Wells, Sr. and Maggie Ruth Hedrick. John worked in various jobs throughout his life such as, a printer, cattle raiser, pig farmer, hay operator, Parks and Wildlife, a funeral home attendant, with Dr. Pepper, E-Systems, and the City of Mesquite. He was a member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Garland, also serving has a Odd Fellow, 32nd Degree Mason, and with the Greenville Police Academy, Citizens on Patrol.
John is survived by his step-daughters, Rebecca Pierce Witt of Lewisville, Laura Pierce Johnson of Greenville; half-brothers, Lloyd D. Phillips of Arkansas; great-niece, Brenda Melton Young; great-nephews, Michael Moore, Wesley Moore; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and his beloved dogs, Brandy, Holly and Itty Bitty.
John is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Nell Hendley Wells; daughter, Cheryl Wells and half-brother, Buford Hedrick.
Pallbearers will be Justin Mitchell, Cade Mitchell, Greg Johnson, Josh Ford, Tony Mixon and Michael Witt.
