She was born October 17, 1919 in South Sulphur Community in Hunt County to V. P. and Lettie Ann Strayhorn. She came to Greenville in 1940 and worked for Haggar Pants Factory. In 1946 after WWII was over, she met the love of her life, Weldon “Tony” Gossett, and they were married on June 20, 1947. They both worked for E-systems until retirement. She was a member of the Living Word Church of Greenville.
Mrs. Gossett started keeping children in her home when her daughter was a child. She thought since she kept her own children and grandchildren, why not add a few more and make a little extra money. It would be impossible to name all the children, but she loved everyone of them, and they called her Nannie.
She would give you the shirt off of her back and would go without. She loved the Lord and would witness to anyone that would listen. She experienced JOY in her life. (Jesus – 1st, Others – 2nd, and Yourself – last).
She is survived by her daughter, Toni Lynn Hunter; grandchildren, Keli and Matt Hunt of The Colony, John and Stephanie Ketcham of McKinney, and Jeremy and Christy Hunter of Wolfe City; great-grandchildren Abigail and Tyler Sowell, Jacob Hardwick, Mason Hunt, Preston Hunter, Lily Ann Hunter and Annabeth Franklin; nieces Jerry Gail Dawson and Jaclyn Jendrek; nephews Dusty Payne and Danny Payne and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Mindi Lynn Ketcham; brothers, Rubin Oscar Strayhorn in WWII, Junior Strayhorn and Carl Strayhorn; sisters, Ethel Miller and Grace Johnson and son-in-law, David Hunter.
Pallbearers will be Dusty Payne, Matt Hunt, Jeremy Hunter, John Ketcham, Dale Gossett, and Jacob Hardwick.
In accordance with CDC guidelines, we request that at all times while in the facility, a mask is worn and social distancing is practiced.
