Walter Boyd Shields, 88, of Greenville, Texas, passed away on February 20, 2023 at his residence. A funeral service will be held Friday, February 24, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Vansickle Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Ratliff and Rev. Steve Bishop officiating. Burial will follow at Simmons Cemetery. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.
Boyd was born July 2, 1934 in Weiland, Texas to Walter and Cora Mae Jenkins Shields. He married Mary Lou Shanks August 6, 1954 in Greenville, Texas. He was a conductor for the KCS Railroad and a member of Vansickle Baptist Church.
Boyd is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Shields; son, Mitch Shields and wife, Debbie; daughters, Renda Evans and husband, Rick, Daphne Bishop and husband, Steve; grandchildren, Misty Evans, Wendy Cook and husband, Travis, Kaylee Shields, Andy Shields, Clinton Cale Bishop, Carlee Ogle and husband, Ben, Chloe Dykes and husband, Grayson, Caidee Bishop; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Averiegh Evans, Calleigh and Calder Cook, Katelyn, Grace and Caroline Bishop, Charlotte Ogle, Mesa, Kanyan Dykes and Leddy Dykes; also many nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers will be Cale Bishop, Andy Shields, David Shields, Craig Shields, Jeff Shields and Steve Eaton.
