Doris Purkey, Age 83, of Garland, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Doctors' Hospital in Dallas. Services will be at 1:30 PM Wednesday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapelwith interment following at Memoryland Memorial Park. Rev. Royce Litchfield will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Purkey was born on April 28, 1925 in Merit, Texas to Kent and Agnes Stinebaugh Owens. On October 13, 1939 she married Wayne Purkey in Greenville, Texas. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith.
Her survivors include her daughters Beverly Youker and husband Steve of Garland and Linda Youngblood and husband Corbin of Mesquite; sisters Bertina Dorman of Greenville and Mildred Cauble of Campbell; grandsons Vince Youngblood of Garland and Michael Youngblood of McKinney; granddaughters Susan Wenzel of Mesquite and Stacy Wells of Garland; great-granddaughters Kourtnee Youngblood of McKinney and Kayla Youngblood of Mesquite; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Betty Purkey; sisters Lois Morris, Elsie Mae Gibbs and Bessie Thulis; brothers Johnny, Raymond, and Bill Owens.
