Mary Alberta Crabb Horan had her heavenly birthday on Sept.
28, 2009. She is preceded in death by her husband of
approximately 40 years, William A. Horan, Jr., her parents
Jesse Presley and Grace Beheler Crabb, her sister Nola Sue
McRight, and her brother Jay Presley Crabb.

Except for a short time away to attend school and start a
family, Mary Crabb was a native and continuous Greenvillite
born June 22, 1929.  She went to Greenville schools, played
bugle in the Flaming Flashes - Drum & Bugle Corps -
under Gussie Nell Davis, and graduated from Greenville High

in 1946.  During her time away, she attended Texas
State College for Women, now Texas Woman's University,
graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in 1950 and University
of Texas at Austin for graduate courses in microbiology.  It
was in one of those classes that she met her future husband
William A Horan Jr. whom she married on November 22, 1951.
After a few years in Austin, they moved back to Greenville
when he took the Directorship of the Hunt County Health
Department Laboratory.

Now back in Greenville for good, Mrs. Horan was head medical
technologist with both the medical and surgical hospitals in
Greenville and helped design the laboratory at what is now
Hunt Regional Medical Center. She became the Director of the
Hunt County Health Department Laboratory in the early
seventies after her husband left that position.
Mrs. Horan was a lifetime and very active member of Wesley
United Methodist Church
where she was baptized as an infant.
On return to Greenville the Horans helped lead the youth
group and eventually participated in the Faith Sunday School
Class which was formed as a class for parents with young
children.  She was also a long time member of the Chancel
Choir.  She shared her faith in Bible Studies, Walk to
Emmaus, Residence Encounter Christ, mentoring young women,
teaching Sunday School, and being a hearer in the annual
Bible Memory Association Contest.

In the rest of the Greenville community, she was active with
both the Greenville Entertainment Series and the Greenville
Symphony Series as well as Business and Professional Women.
In 1984, she was initiated into The Order of the Eastern
Star with her husband and daughters, holding many positions
including secretary and Worthy Matron in both Greenville
Chapter 189 and Caddo Mills Chapter 82.

She is survived by her children William A. Horan, III and
his wife Deborah of Mesquite, TX, Mary Sue Horan of
Galveston, TX, Barbara Ann Horan of Austin, TX and James
Presley Horan of Greenville, TX, as well as many many
adopted spiritual children.
