John H.Shanks

John H. Shanks, 90, of Greenville passed away September 30, 2010 at Hunt Regional Medical Center.  Services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Royce Litchfield officiating.  Interment follows at Memoryland Memorial Park.  Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home.

John was born December 28, 1919 in the Jacobia community in Hunt County to Phinas Owen Shanks and Ella Spoonemore.  On December 1, 1947, he married Juanita Boatman in Yuma, Arizona.  He was retired from Chevron Corporation.

Survivors include his daughters Brenda K. Thorn and husband Don, Nita Elaine Shanks, and Anita Kay Shanks; brother Newman Shanks; sisters Roselyn McKay, Peggy Baise, and Mary Lou Shields;  4 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren;  9 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1995; parents; daughter Raijean Gore Allison; brothers Jack, Ross, and Preston Shanks; and sisters Ruth Timmerman and Edith Jones.
