O. L. Nichols, Jr. of Celeste passed away February 21, 2011 at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.  Services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Eason officiating.  Interment will follow at Celeste Cemetery.

Born November 22, 1936 in Lane, Texas, O.L. was the son of Laute and Hattie Sumrow Nichols.  On June 23, 1956, he married Kay Armstrong in Celeste.  He was retired from Southwestern Bell and was also a dairy farmer and seller at Cumby Auction. For 30 years, he served as a member of the Hunt County Fair Board. He served 3 terms as a board member of the Celeste ISD and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Celeste.

O. L. enjoyed the “country way”.  His love of livestock, his trips to the Sulphur Springs Dairy Auction, and his role at the Cumby Auction each week were important events to him.  But the love of his life was the constant planning of adventures and stories for his grandson, Kolton.

His survivors include his wife, Kay; sons Les and Craig Nichols; and grandchildren Kolton and Sky Nichols.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers Rayford and Dan Nichols.

Robbie Barnard, Jim Nichols, Brad Nichols, Steve Armstrong, Mike Armstrong, Kelly Armstrong, Ron Saye, and Charlie Morrison will serve as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Members of the Hunt County Fair Board, Tim Nichols, Dr. James Nicholson, and Tony Maddox.
