Ruth Greaves McGee, 98, of Greenville, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at Briarcliff Health Care of Greenville.  Graveside services are at 2 PM, Friday at Mt. Zion Cemetery, east of Commerce on Highway 11 with Rev. Valarie Englert officiating. Coker-Mathews Funeral Home in Greenville is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McGee was born May 23, 1912, in the Branom/Mt. Zion community, the daughter of Edwin P. and Ella Renfro Greaves. She was married to Gordon McGee until his death in 1977. She and Gordon were members of Marvin United Methodist Church, Tyler, until they moved to Greenville in 1958. Ruth was active with her Sunday school class in Tyler, acting as president for several terms. She was then active in her Sunday school classes and was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Greenville, until her health prevented her from serving. At both churches, she especially enjoyed ministering to the home-bound and  those living in retirement centers. Her life was devoted to helping others.

Surviving are a sister, Oma Greaves Thomas of Cumby; niece, Gail Greaves Bonser of Dallas; nephews, Kenneth Greaves of Australia and Ron Thomas of Commerce.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, and most recently by her loving niece and nephew Eddie Thomas and Sue Greaves McCutcheon.

The family requests memorials be made to Wesley United Methodist Church in lieu of flowers.
