James Austin Tipps, 64, of Greenville, died Saturday, January 12, 2008, at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 15, at 1:00 PM at Mineral Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Williford officiating. Burial will be in Memoryland Memorial Park.
Mr. Tipps was born in Whitewright, Texas on January 1, 1944, the son of Austin M. and Ruth O. Brand Tipps. On March 30, 1964, in Greenville, he married Barbara Scarbrough. He was an automobile painter and a member of Mineral Heights Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Tipps of Greenville; sons and daughters-in-law, Eddie and Tammie Tipps of Celeste and Michael and Tina Tipps of Greenville; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Billy Phillips of Quinlan; brother and his wife, Jerry and Annie Tipps of Greenville; sister, Quita Wyman of Brashear; and grandchildren, Justin Tipps, Jason Tipps, Christina Kasehagen, Carlos Gonzalez, Aaron Phillips, Grant Tipps, Alisha Tipps, Billy Phillips, Kayla Tipps, Stacy Tipps and Jimmy Tipps. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Pallbearers will be Roy Rouser, Wayne Daugherty, Charles Scarbrough, Jason Rouser, Jeremy Rouser and Gary Giles.
Visitation will be Monday, January 14, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.
